SF RISING
By Alessandra Mattanza
„San Francisco itself is art… every block is a short story, every hill a novel. Every home a poem, every dweller within immortal.”
– William Saroyan
„You must always be able to predict what’s next and then have the flexibility to evolve.”
– Marc Benioff
SF RISING, part of the BWGLOBAL multimedia art project, which includes many different cities all around the world, is an awareness social justice and architecture fine art photography project, with the mission that architecture can inspire and change the world.
SF RISING represents the rising of the new San Francisco, including the Bay area and Silicon Valley, to a global capital of the world.
SF RISING represents the city’s vocation to social justice, equality, and diversity, its dreams and ideas, innovation for a better world, its technology and AI for good through imagined buildings that aim to reach the sky like the city’s spirit, but thanks to a pretty much old professional Nikon camera. It is a wonderful example how new and old can mix together creating magic.
SF RISING represents the city’s will never to give up and always resurfaces from its ashes.
SF RISING has been inspired from the Rising Phoenix in the center of the flag of the city and county of San Francisco, a civic symbol since 1861. The rising phoenix is supposed to represent the city’s recovery from 1906 earthquake and multiple fires in the 19th century, which devasted it deeply. In mythology, the phoenix appears in many ancient cultures and symbolizes immortality and the ability to rebirth no matter what.
